How to Obtain a South African Police Certificate from Canada

To obtain a police clearance certificate (Police Clearance Certificate) from South Africa while residing in Canada, physical ink fingerprints are required on their official form.

Fingerprint Requirements:

  • Form Requirements: Fingerprints must be captured on the official SAPS 91(a) form. You must print this official form and bring it with you to your appointment.

  • Fingerprint Impressions: A full set of 10 rolled finger impressions will be taken in traditional black ink.

  • Fingerprint Method: Fingerprints must be taken using the traditional ink and roll method.

  • Booking Info: When booking your appointment online, please make sure to select our Traditional Ink and Roll Fingerprinting service.

Using Canadian Documents in South Africa

Canada and South Africa are both members of the Hague Apostille Convention. Therefore, standard Canadian Apostille certificates are fully recognized and accepted in South Africa without requiring embassy or consular legalization.

  • Apostille Jurisdictions: Depending on where your documents were issued, some must be processed at the federal level, while others must be handled by the specific provincial government.

  • Notarization Rules: Official federal documents (such as an RCMP Certified Criminal Record Check) do not require notarization and can be submitted directly for an Apostille. However, personal or corporate documents must be officially notarized first.

  • Time Limit: Canadian documents (such as background checks, vital statistics, and civil records) must generally be submitted to South African authorities within 3 to 6 months from their issuance date.

Our agency fully facilitates the entire Apostille process for South Africa. Please contact our office directly so we can review your specific documents, determine their correct jurisdiction, and manage your submission from start to finish.
