Eligibility for a Record Suspension
Before applying for a record suspension, individuals must meet certain eligibility criteria including:

Completion of Sentence: Applicants must have completed all aspects of their sentence, including any payment of fines, restitution orders, probation orders, parole, or conditional sentences.

Waiting Period: A mandatory waiting period must be observed from the date all sentences were completed—5 years for summary offences and 10 years for indictable offences.

Good Conduct: Applicants must demonstrate they have lived a law-abiding life during the waiting period.
Please note that you DO NOT need to apply for a record suspension if:

You have only received an absolute or conditional discharge; or
-
You were only convicted in a youth court or youth justice court.
In such cases, you may be eligible to apply for record destruction (also known as file destruction) to have your record removed from the RCMP's national database. For individuals whose charges were withdrawn, or dismissed, or who received an absolute or conditional discharge, we offer file/record destruction services. This service aims to remove your record from RCMP and local police databases, ensuring your past does not impact your future opportunities.
